Date, Place of Birth, and Early Age
Misty May-Treanor was born on July 30, 1977 in Los Angeles, California where she was raised (May-Treanor 1). Her early life could be described as sporty as she grew up playing beach volleyball with her parents Barbara, a former nationally tennis ranked player, and Robert May, a member of the United States Men’s National Volleyball team in 1968 (May-Treanor 4). More so, she played her first volleyball tournament at the early age of 8. Hence, one can surely say that her early years were full of sports. Accordingly, May-Treanor was a passionate and ambitious person, and the most significant thing that helped her succeed is hard work and persistence when it came to beach volleyball. From a young age she knew she wanted to play volleyball in the future, and she prepared for this by playing the game enthusiastically at any given chance. Misty demonstrated it when she joined the Newport Harbor High School where she helped it win two state championships in 1992 and 1994 (May-Treanor 20).
Work, Contribution, and Impact on Others
May-Treanor first played for the U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team in the summer of 1999 before eventually moving to the beach volleyball. In this kind of sport she effectively partnered with Kerri Walsh and won the 2004, 2008, and 2012 gold medals (May-Treanor 59). Her contribution was important because she helped the United States of America to appear on the global map as the best country in beach volleyball. Notably, her contribution brought glory to the whole country, and everyone was proud of her. She taught others through her own character of remaining focused and working hard in whatever she did on the pitch while playing beach volleyball. With her teachings and quality play, the lasting effects she had on other people are determination and focus on success. She left everyone more motivated to reach their goals through hard work.
What to Know About Her
The most significant thing that should be known about May-Treanor is that her childhood was quite unstable because of the alcoholic nature of both of her parents. Such circumstances forced her to stay with her grandparents. This phase of life was quite embarrassing, heartbreaking, and shameful to her, but she loved her parents until they became sober in their later years. The key thing that we benefit today from May-Treanor is the lessons she left behind (May-Treanor 27). One of such lessons is that individuals should be able to go for what they want without being held back. For example, when she felt volleyball was not interesting anymore, the woman went for beach volleyball to satisfy the desire of her heart, and she succeeded. The most impressive thing about May-Treanor is that she is a versatile personality. Apart from playing volleyball and beach volleyball, she can also act and dance as illustrated in the episode of CSI: Miami and Wizards of Waverly Place.
Inspiration
I must admit that May-Treanor has greatly inspired me. First, she has inspired me to work hard in my life, as it is the only way to reach the set goals. Her career would not be successful if she was not a hard-working person. Secondly, she has inspired me to encourage teamwork in everything I do. The vivid example was her partnership with Kerri Walsh, which led to the three gold medals. Working with other people plays an instrumental role in leading to success that might have been least expected of us. I would like to be her in terms of her versatility as a sportsperson, actor, and dancer. It is through this versatility that she has been able to impact on the lives of individuals in different ways, and I would like to do the same.
